Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis and interpretation of Jerzy Żuławski’s novel On the Silver Globe (1903) from an ecocritical perspective. The journey to the moon becomes here an escape from the destructive civilisation that is falling. The author of the paper pays special attention to the human-nature relationship, which has
dramatically changed as a result of the ongoing industrial revolution. Despite the escape, the characters miss Earth, constantly comparing the lunar and terrestrial landscapes, which enhances their feelings of melancholy.
