This paper examines the place of Silesian regional identity in the conceptual system of a group of inhabitants of Cieszyn Silesia which chose a Polonocentric interpretation of the Silesian reality. It is about the so-called awakeners of Polishness of the first generation, with representatives such as Paweł Stalmach, Andrzej Cinciała, Andrzej Kotula, among others. It was this generation who were the first to have to deal with the problem of competition between ethnic entities in the region, especially with their own perception of ethnic identity. The aim of the analysis is to determine the process of searching for the group identity of specific representatives of the Cieszyn Silesian community in the conditions of a diverse nationality offer of the borderland, based on how it was rendered by the participants of the Polish national movement in Cieszyn Silesia.
