Abstract

The material used as a basis for this article includes 124 entries (100 nouns, 23 adjectives and 1 adverb) used 728 times in total. The entries have been ranked into 17 frequency groups – from frequency 678 (wulkoposlanc) to frequency 1 (49 entries). Among 124 entriesfound in “Nowa doba” (1977-1980), 41 lexical units are attested in the most recentedition of Völkel’s dictionary of 2014. It appears that some compounds with wulko- should be included in the next edition of Völkel because they reused relatively frequently.

Bio Statement:

Tadeusz Lewaszkiewicz, Professor Emeritus. His areas of specialisation include Sorbian studies, Polish studies, and selected issues in Slavic linguistics. His research interests focus on the history of the Polish language and the Sorbian languages, selected aspects of the history of Slavic languages (particularly the role of Bible translations in their development), Polish and Sorbian lexicology, Sorbian word formation, the Polish of the former Eastern Borderlands, Polish-German language contact, and the history of Slavic linguistics and Slavophilism. His selected monographs include Słowotwórstwo apelatywnych nazw miejsc w języku górnołużyckim (Word Formation of Appellative Place Names in Upper Sorbian) (Wrocław, 1988), Łużyckie przekłady Biblii. Przewodnik bibliograficzny (Sorbian Bible Translations: A Bibliographical Guide) (Warsaw, 1995), and Język powojennych przesiedleńców z Nowogródka i okolicy (The Language of Post-war Resettlers from Nowogródek and Its Surroundings) (Poznań, 2017).
