105th Borderlands Military Hospital and Outpatient Clinic Poland

Zbigniew Kopociński, MD, ophthalmologist, medical historian, community activist, and member of organisations dedicated to the heritage of the former Eastern Borderlands and military veterans. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at the Military Medical Academy in Łódź, he has been professionally affiliated for many years with the 105th Borderlands Military Hospital and Outpatient Clinic in Żary. His principal research interest is the history of the Polish military medical service. He has presented the results of his research in more than one hundred scholarly and popular-science publications, including eight monographs, among them Sanatorium Rehabilitacyjne Leczenia Zeza w Sobótce (The strabismus rehabilitation sanatorium in Sobótka) (2016), Szpital Wojskowy w Równem w latach 1919–1939 (The military hospital in Równe, 1919–1939) (2020), Horka – łużycka Golgota służby zdrowia 2. Armii Wojska Polskiego = Horka – das Lausitzer Drama des Sanitätsdienstes der 2. Polnischen Armee (The Horka – Lusatian Golgotha of the 2nd Polish Army medical service) (2021), and Szpital Główny 1. Korpusu Polskiego w Bobrujsku (The main hospital of the 1st Polish Corps in Bobruisk) (2023). Together with his brother, Krzysztof Kopociński, MD, he initiated and submitted the proposal to grant the 105th Military Hospital in Żary the honorary designation “Kresowy” (Borderlands). In recognition of his achievements, he received the Praemium Honoris Cresovianae award from the World Congress of Kresovians for outstanding contributions to restoring national memory of the Polish Eastern Borderlands, as well as the Buzdygan Polski Zbrojnej, a prestigious annual distinction awarded to individuals particularly meritorious in service to the Polish Armed Forces.
