Abstract

Based on an analysis of Polish and Bulgarian archival documents, the author presents the image of Polish and Bulgarian intelligentsia in exile, from the perspective of the communist Secret Service employees. The article explains the nomenclature used to refer to the representatives of intellectuals living abroad at the time and to their characteristics, and lists  charges against the intelligentsia. This analysis reveals that the approach taken towards emigrants among Polish service officers was rather neutral, while the Bulgarian documents contain predominantly negative expressions.
