Describing affixoidal compounds in Polish: Problems in interpretation

Abstract

The article is part of the ongoing international theoretical debate on affixoidal compounds. It adds new insights to the current literature on the subject with respect to problems in interpretation that arise when describing structures of this type in Polish. The author presents various perspectives on such issues as the status of affixoids, the boundary between affixes and affixoids, the interpretation of the -o- and -i- vowels, or the distonction between multi-core twosegmental and multi-segmental compounds. Overall, he concludes that it is vital to be aware that the interpretive assumptions made will affect the results of empirical studies.
