Abstrakt

W artykule został zaprezentowany i omówiony złożony sygnet drukarski, którym posługiwał się od roku 1490 augsburski drukarz Erhard Ratdolt. Jego znak pod wieloma względami miał pionierski charakter: kompozycja ta powstała w wyniku połączenia zwięzłego epigramu zastępującego tradycyjny kolofon oraz symbolicznego drzeworytu, który z jednej strony odwoływał się do konwencji heraldycznych, a z drugiej – czerpał znaczenie z astrologii. Był to także pierwszy sygnet, który potraktowany został jako samodzielna kompozycja, a Ratdolt konsekwentnie tłoczył go na osobnej stronie, eksponując go i podkreślając jego miejsce w strukturze książki. Sygnet ten stanowi przykład innowacji wprowadzanych przez drukarzy i wydawców w okresie formowania się książki drukowanej i odchodzenia od wzorców rękopiśmiennych. Choć był bardzo nowatorski, to nawiązywał do różnych wcześniejszych tradycji, znanych nam zarówno z manuskryptów, jak i inkunabułów. By dobrze ukazać genezę znaku Ratdolta, we wstępnej części artykułu przedstawiono dwa ważne elementy struktury książki: eksplicity i sygnety drukarskie. W podsumowaniu z kolei zwrócono uwagę na możliwy wpływ „wierszowanych sygnetów” na wykształcenie się znacznie popularniejszych paratekstowych form słowno-wizualnych: stemmatów i emblematów.

Biogram

dr hab., Uniwersytet Warszawski. Filolog klasyczny i polski, zatrudniony w Instytucie Filologii Klasycznej UW, absolwent UW, gdzie uzyskał doktorat i habilitację w zakresie literaturoznawstwa. Przez wiele lat pracował w Zakładzie Starych Druków Biblioteki Narodowej. Specjalizuje się w literaturze nowołacińskiej i recepcji antyku w czasach nowożytnych, badając m.in. związek różnych form literackich z komponentem wizualnym oraz dzieje literatury w kontekście historii książki. W szczególności zajmuje się publikacjami emblematycznymi, stemmatami i recepcją motywów znanych ze starożytnych monet. Obecnie analizuje formy komunikacji wydawców z XV i XVI w. ze środowiskiem czytelniczym.
