Abstract

This review article offers an in-depth analysis and discussion of Hanna Dymel Trzebiatowska’s (2024) Przechadzki po Dolinie Muminków. Perspektywa filozoficzno-literacka [Strolls through Moominvalley: A  Philosophical–Literary Perspective], one of the most significant recent contributions to international Moomin studies. The author highlights the interdisciplinary and analytically sophisticated character of the monograph, which combines literary, philosophical, psychological, sociological, gender-oriented, and ecocritical approaches. Dymel-Trzebiatowska reveals the multifaceted nature of Tove Jansson’s fictional universe, addressing iconotextual relations, artistic evolution, symbolic representations, and complex portrayals of characters and motifs. The reviewed book also offers pioneering insights into ageism, ecological catastrophe, and the contemporary political potential of Moomin narratives. This article argues that Dymel-Trzebiatowska’s study significantly advances global scholarship on Jansson by demonstrating the philosophical and cultural relevance of the Moomin stories for 21st-century humanities.
