This review article examines the volume Ośla Skórka, Wieloskórka i Mysi Kożuszek – baśniowe siostry. Studia nad wątkiem bajkowym ATU 510B [Donkeyskin, All-Fur and Mouse-Fur: The Folktale Sisters and a Study of the Folktale Type ATU 510B] by Eliza Pieciul-Karmińska, Kamila Kowalczyk, and Anna Loba (2024). The author analyses three original studies dedicated to the fairy-tale motif ATU 510B, which centres on the themes of incest, the heroine’s escape from a forced marriage to her father (or brother), and her disguise in animal skins. The publication is pioneering in character, as it represents the first Polish monographic approach to a single fairy-tale motif. Eliza Pieciul-Karmińska’s chapter offers a philological analysis of three successive versions of the Brothers Grimm’s Allerleirauh. Kamila Kowalczyk’s study focuses on the reception of the ATU 510B motif in Polish folklore and literature, while Anna Loba explores the cultural significance of Charles Perrault’s Donkeyskin from the perspective of Romance studies. The volume also includes an appendix featuring two Grimm versions of Allerleirauh and several particularly interesting Polish folk variants. The book provides a valuable starting point for further research on fairy-tale micronarratives and encourages reflection on their cultural significance.
