Abstract

The article discusses the participation of rural youth in the 1955 World Festival of Youth and Students held in Warsaw. The author identifies the differences and similarities between rural and urban youth, situating them within the broader context of selected socio-political developments of the Polish Thaw. The source material includes articles from two weekly magazines published by the Union of Polish Youth: Nowa Wieś [New Village], aimed at rural youth, and Dookoła Świata [Around the World], aimed at urban youth. The article also draws on the accounts by rural diarists and press correspondents.
